A confident Dempo led by defender Rosario Rodrigues stamped their class by winning the tournament without conceding a goal. Dionisio Trindade and Joseph Machado scored to down local champions Indian Telephone Industries SC 2-0 in the final. The Goans had outclassed Mafatlal Mills 4-0 in the firstleg semi-final and the Bombay team were so demoralised that they didn’t take the field for the second leg, instead blaming their absence on five injured players!
