Marcus Carvalho
Forward (1994-1999, 2000-2002)
International
More than 20 years after he captured the nation’s imagination, Marcus Carvalho still holds an enviable record for a Goan footballer – a hat-trick in the final of the 1994 Scissors Cup final against the redoubtable Mohun Bagan that helped Dempo emerge champions. The pacy striker was at his free-flowing best when partnering Francis Silveira at Dempo and was the architect of many victories with some fine goals. Both sharpshooters eventually left the club to join Churchill Brothers but could not recreate the same magic that made them one of Goa’s most feared striking duos. The highest goal-scorer in the Goa Senior Division League for three years in a row between 1996 and 1998, Carvalho was handpicked for India duty at the World Cup qualifiers in Doha in 1996.
