Herbert San
Midfielder (1978-1989)
When Herbert San had the ball, it was difficult for opponents to snatch it away as he could screen it with deft turns. His crosses were among the best in the business. A selfless player and thorough team man, Herbert was also a very good tackler and could snatch the ball and launch a counter-attack in a jiffy. It was he who laid the pass for Camilo Gonsalves to score in the final of the 1983-84 Santosh Trophy that Goa won outright for the first time ever. The Andaman & Nicobar native held Dempo together since joining them in the late seventies and his good physique, hard work and stamina, made him an automatic choice on the right side of the midfield.
