CANSAULIM: Dempo Sports Club won the Goa Football Association U-14 title for the second consecutive year following their 2-0 win over Salgaocar Football Club in the State final match played at the T B Cunha Sports Complex, Cansaulim.
It was Salgaocar FC who controlled the proceedings in the first 10 minutes with good moves coming in through Flan and Shinde but a stubborn Dempo defence led by Manas kept them at bay. Dempo regrouped and took the fight to the rival camp but some good goalkeeping by Akash helped Salgaocar. The teams were locked goalless at half time.
In the second half it was a see-saw midfield battle with a goal eluding both the teams.
When crowd at Cansaulim thought the match was going into the tie-breaker, Nathan Coutinho came up with a good goal in the 63rd minute. Dempo held sway thereafter but Salgaocar Rui was unlucky to see his opportunistic try saved by Dempo keeper Rick Ferrao brilliantly saved his attempt.
In the 67th minute, Dempo scored their second goal off a brilliant free-kick by Top in Minz.
