Dempo Sports Club were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Goa in the All India Football Federation Sub-Junior Youth League played at Nagoa-Verna ground, on Sunday.
Dempo strikes missed two clear chances in the first half. First Naythan Coutinho failed to make the best of the pass from Ashwin as he fumbled when mattered most. Second was Rubi Pun, who couldn’t direct Leo’s cross as he headed over the bar. FC Goa’s Vedant Naik also missed an opportunity. There was no score at the break.
It was Sigmund Rebello who sent in a long ball to Dempo striker Nathan Coutinho who ran from the centre and scored with a delightful finish, showing pure class to give Dempo SC a deserving lead.
But the joy was short-lived as FC Goa’s Merwin Fernandes assisted defender Grenville Nunes just above the 18 yards box who equalised in the 45th minute. Just few minutes before the final whistle, Dempo’s Brendon Pereira failed to convert of a penalty kick
