Ryuji Sueoka set to join Dempo

33 year old attacking midfielder, Ryuji Sueoka, became Dempo’s first signing of the season, after the Japanese agreed terms with India’s champion club and is all set to sign on the dotted line in the first week of June.

The former Salgaocar player, whose contract expires this May, was on coach Armando Colaco’s radar for a long time and was delighted to sign for the Blues this year. Speaking to www.demposportsclub.com, the Japanese said, “I have seen the club for three years. It has a good management and coach. I feel I will be able to adapt to Dempo’s passing style of football.”



The Yamaguchi born star first played in India under Karim Bencherifa at Mohun Bagan in the 2009-10 season before the Moroccan brought him to Salgaocar when he took over in the 2010-11 season. He played two years at Salgaocar and won the I-League with them in his first season with the Vasco based club.



Ryuji is a widely traveled player having played in many of the strong leagues inAsia. He started his career at Albirex Nigata in the J-League and played there for three years. He also played in the Singapore League with Geyland United and Albirex Nigata Singapore FC scoring 12 goals for the club. He scored a total of 25 goals in The Singapore League playing for Geyland United, Balestier FC and Albirex Niigata Singapore FC. In 2008-09 he played for Bangkok United in the Thailand Premier League before joining Mohun Bagan in the 2009-10 season to play under Karim Bencherifa, scoring five goals for the Mariners. Interestingly, Ryuji first trialed for Sporting Clube de Goa before eventually playing for the Green and Maroons in his first season inIndia.






He joined Karim Bencherifa at Salgaocar and helped the Greens to their first I-League triumph in 12 years scoring a stunning 18 goals in his first season. He also scored 9 goals for Salgaocar in his second season and had a lone AFC Cup goal to his credit against Neftchi of Uzbekistan.

Dempo coach Armando Colaco was delighted with the fact that Sueoka has agreed terms with the club and will sign shortly. “He is a good player, very quick and very technical. He will be a good addition to the side and will be a good replacement for Ranti. He will sign for us on the 1st of June”
