Dempo Juniors players, Myron Fernandes and Aniston Fernandes, returned home after their three months training stint at the FC Midtjylland Academy in Ikast- a stint they both described as very fruitful and extremely challenging.
Speaking exclusively to www.demposportsclub.com the duo shed light on their training programme and their brief stay inDenmark.
According to Myron, a typical day at the academy would start at 6:30 am when the players would rise up. Breakfast would start at 7:00 am followed by training that was held three times a day for about one and half hours each. The first training session would start at 7:30 am and would last till about 9:30 am. They would then disperse for an hour of class followed by training again till lunchtime. After lunch there would be another session of class followed by the third and final training session. Supper was served at 7:30 in the evening and the academy boys would retire to bed by 9:30pm.
The boys from Goa trained with the U-19’s and the U-17’s totaling about 25-30 from theFCMAcademyin the mornings while they trained with their classmates from High School in the evening.
When quizzed about the differences between the juniors fromDenmarkand the juniors fromGoa, Aniston had an honest answer to give. “There is no comparison with our U-18 team and the FCM U-18 team. They are vastly superior to us in all aspects be it physical fitness, body structure, ball control etc. They have about 3-4 coaches training each age group team there. They are very professional in their approach right from diet to education”. He also felt that they took a little time to adjust but once they settled their coaches were impressed with their ball control and passing. “We initially found it a little difficult to adjust with the food and time difference, but after about a month we settled in nicely into the team. The coaches here were pretty impressed with our passing and ball control. They stressed on quick release of the ball and ball possession, exactly the same way we play at Dempo”, said Aniston.
Aniston and Myron also played a few competitive games for theIkastAcademyin the Danish Junior League. While Aniston had 4 caps, Myron played two games for the Academy team and they were both satisfied with their performance. “The standard of the junior League is unbelievable there. There is so much support for sports there. Parents come to watch their kids there and encourage them at every game”, quipped Myron.
The duo also had a once in a lifetime opportunity of watching Barcelona play Getafe at the Camp Nou, a game Barcelona won 4-1, and their idol Messi scored. The boys went to Spain with the high school team of Ikast and were bowled over by the atmosphere at Nou Camp. No prizes for guessing who they will want to play for when they turn professional.
