Dempo SC took just nine minutes to get their nose in front when Milagres headed a long ball unleashed by Mandar Rao Dessai from the top of the box. Four, minutes later, Felix doubled the lead following a scintillating solo run, leaving the opponent defenders aghast. Minerva’s Manvir Singh and Sajandeep Singh tried their best to penetrate the Dempo SC defence but the tame effort from the top of the box was easily collected by Laxmikant Kattimani. Just after the half-hour mark, Felix ran past Amandeep Singh and released a loopy ball, which was converted by Milagres with much ease to send the Dempo SC dugout in a delirium. Dempo SC, who were enjoying the lion’s share of ball possession, were very close to scoring their fourth goal at the stroke of the first half but Mandar’s grounded shot missed the net by a whisker. On the resumption, Surinder Singh introduced Nitesh Chhikara at the expense of Kamalpreet Singh to shape up the defence. Nitesh combined well with Sehijpal Singh from the right but his long ball was snatched by the safe hands of Kattimani. With eight minutes to the final whistle, Felix almost completed his brace but Arshdeep Singh threw himself to thwart the Nigerian from increasing the gap further. In the 86th minute, Minerva Academy FC had their share of joy when Amandeep found the back of the net from the top of the box, thanks to a deflection by Shallum Pires.]]>

PRINCIPLES OF COACHING http://demposportsclub.com/principles-of-coaching-2/ http://demposportsclub.com/principles-of-coaching-2/#comments Tue, 17 May 2016 07:46:04 +0000 http://demposportsclub.com/?p=3191 DSCN3909

DSCN3909 Regardless of the level of participation in the game, these fundamental “laws” which govern coaching and training methodology should be fully acknowledged by coaches, according to my Coaching Guru, Ted Dumitru. I share these Principles that gave me the impetus in the planning of sessions in all age groups and entry into to this challenging Industry. Its “golden” in your growth as a Coach
  1. ANY COACHING CONCEPT OR TRAINING PROGRAMME MUST STRICTLY CORRESPOND WITH THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PLAYERS, THEIR AGE AND LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE.
From this point of view, if training methods antagonize the player’s nature, his development and performance are obstructed. Players’ natural rejection of irrelevant training will definitely have a negative effects on all aspects of the game. Important to note, players’ native abilities and their basic playing mentality cannot be changed through training. This can only be IMPROVED OR ADAPTED.
  1. TRAINING MUST REFLECT THE SPECIFICS OF SOCCER
As the object of the game is the ball, there CANNOT BE A SUBSTITUTE FOR BALL WORK. When training is done extensively without the ball, players do not improve their playing ability. Any form of running in soccer involves a SPECIFIC ELEMENT of WHY, WHERE, WHEN AND HOW TO RUN. That is why in soccer training even the simplest movement must be combined with at least another aim.
  1. CONTINUITY OF TRAINING
The diversity and complexity of game factors impose systematic training and large volume of work throughout the years. Generally, there are FOUR stages in the making of a player.
  • Stage one: 6 – 7 to 11 – 12 years is about BASIC SKILL DEVELOPMENT.
  • Stage two: 12 – 13 to 15 – 16 years, is the period of IMPROVING AND CONSOLIDATING PLAYING SKILLS.
  • Stage three: 17 – 19 years, is about PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
  • Stage four: Completes the development of a player and also offer opportunity for consistent participation in the league competitions. Hence “PERFORMANCE MATURITY”
It should be clearly understood that sporadic and inefficient training will deprive even the best talent of future glory.
  1. VOLUME, INTENSITY AND DIFFICULTY OF TRAINING MUST GADUALLY INCREASE.
Exercises, used in training are governed by rules which define how much work load should be put on players’ during practice. Performance improvement can only be achieved if the volume, intensity and difficulty of exercises are gradually increased.
  1. ADDRESSING PLAYERS’ INDIVIDUAL NEEDS FOR IMPROVEMENT
Coaches do not train “teams” they train the “players”. There are distinct differences on individual technical and tactical behavior which require that certain aspects of training be done according to these particularities        ]]>

The Golden Eagles enjoyed lion’s share of possession with Mandar Rao Dessai, Holicharan Narzary and Romeo Fernandes controlling in the midfield.
