Dempo Sports Club scored a fluent 4-0 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played at Ella ground, Old Goa, on Friday.
The win takes the Golden Eagles on 41 points from 17 games while Vasco SC are on sixth position with 26 points from 19 games. Dempo SC has now extended their lead at the top to five points.
Playing at their fortress the Golden Eagles had to wait until the half hour mark to take the lead and they managed to score through Joaquim Abranches, who capitalised on the Vasco custodian Sanju’s mistake when he dropped the ball on collection in the box and the former FC Goa striker was the fastest to react to score the first.
Vasco Sports Club had their chances through Aman Govekar, but Dempo keeper Tyson Caido came with a brilliant save to deny the lad.
Dempo SC finally doubled the lead just before the breather courtesy yet another goalkeeping howler from Sanju. The custodian fumbled while collecting the cross of Floyd Pereira which landed straight in the goal.
Crossing over, Dempo Sports Club added two more goals. Pedro Gonsalves scored the third in the 68th minute when he made his way from the centre and scored past the helpless keeper. Down by three goals meant the Port Towners were certain to suffer a defeat brining an end to their dream run. Vasco conceded their fourth in the second half added time when Desmon Pereira beautifully chipped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.
