Dempo Sports Club played out a 2-2 draw against Churchill Brothers SC in the AIFF U-15 Youth League played at Dempo Academy ground. Dempo SC finished second on goal difference behind Churchill Brothers as both the teams have now qualified for the final round.
Dempo SC conceded early in the 18th minute through Megan Dais.
Dempo SC had their chance too but Dempo strikes failed to convert as they trailed 0-1 at the break.
In the second half, Dempo SC came back strongly and pinned their opponents in the rival territory. Churchill Brothers succumbed to the pressure as they gave away a penalty to Dempo SC when Velanco Rodrigues was brought down in the box. Captain Necio Fernandes made no mistake in sending the goalkeeper in the wrong direction.
Minutes later a good long ball from Rajan Kumar to Sherwin Abranches on right flank and a perfect cross from Sherwin Abranches to Shreyash Naik helped the latter to put Dempo SC ahead in the game. However, Churchill Brothers SC came with the equaliser through captain Mevan Dias.
With this draw both the teams qualified to play off at Kolkata.
“Our boys played their best throughout the league. We missed many chances in our earlier games which cost us the top spot. However, we will strive hard and prepare to give out best in our remaining games,” added Dempo SC coach Remus Gomes.
