Apr 17: Churchill Brothers heaved a sigh of relief when they salvaged a point during their 2-2 draw against the reigning champions Dempo in an explosive I-League football match played at Tilak Maidan, Vasco on Wednesday.
It was the Japanese import Ryuji Seuoka who provided the lead in the 12th minute which made Churchill go all out fo attack and came very close in restoring parity in the 32nd minute but hte tries of Gabonese Henri Anthouchet missed the mark.
However, just a minute before the break, Churchill restored parity through a free kick taken by Sunil Chettri. With just few seconds to go for the lemon break, climax Lawrence pumped in a fine goal to tae his side 2-1.
Churchill came up with more pressure in the second session to score in the 52nd minute with a free kick taken again by their captain Sunil Cheetri. He eventually went on to win the man of the match award for his superlative effort in scoring the goals.
With this draw, Churchill have now collected 48 points with three more matches to go, while Dempo are occupying 5th position with 36 points.
Dempo will now play against East Bengal at the same venue on 4th May 2013@6:30 pm
