Mapusa : Dempo S.C and Mohun Bagan played out a goalless draw to split points in the seventh round of the Airtel I-League encounter at Duler Stadium on Friday.
The first half was fought on an even note as both the teams attacked each other but failed to break the deadlock as they lacked direction to find the target or beat the rival keeper.
On their part, Dempo also came up with constructed moves with Roberto Silva and Billy Mehmet combining well with the former setting along with Clifford miranda, Mehmet twice inside the goal but the latter failed to find the back of the gate as goalkeeper Shilton Paul was up to the task.
The first attempt for Mohun Bagan came in the 10th minute when Manish Bhargavs screecher from 15 yards was defended by Dempo goakeeper Roychowdhury. Mohun Bagan’s Eric Muranda and Kastumi Yusa tried hard to take a lead, were not able to score as goal keeper Subhasish Roychowdhury denied chances to the opponents.
It’s was an uneventful first half, so to say, besides a few chances created at both sides n many missed chances the game was being played mainly in the middle half.
Dempo supporters felt they had a reason to cheer as Clifford Miranda claimed to have hit the hand of Pritam Kotal while crossing the ball in Mohun Bagan box but referee Rahul D’Sa felt otherwise and continued with the game.
Dempo’s Alwyn George came on for Peter Carvalho in the second half and did well to raise the tempo of the game. Myron Fernandes was Substituted by young Holicharan Narzary in second half.
Dempo SC was guilty of missing almost 12 chances while Mohun Bagan missed 9. Yellow Cards were given to Simon Colosimo, Celestine Echezona and Adil Khan .
Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Shilton Paul is adjudged as the “Man of the Match”.
