Dempo lose to Sporting in TACA Goa Final

Dempo Sports Club Juniors ended up in second place after losing to Sporting Clube de Goa in the finals of the TACA Goa U-20 Tournament on penalties. The match was played at the Poriat Ground in Calangute. Coach Mathew D’Costa started with an attacking line up with the likes of Romeo Fernandes and Brian Mascarenhas being the prominent names. Skipper Shallum Pires was marshalling the defense while Clencio Pinto and Tunard Fernandes were up front. Sporting with two I-League players in their ranks were the dominant team in the first fifteen minutes and Dempo were happy soaking up the pressure.


Sporting took the lead in the 30th minute when Pritam Singh, who has made his I-League debut this season placed the ball past Dempo keeper Agnelo D’Souza in the far left corner. But just a minute later Clencio Pinto equalized for Dempo after the Sporting defenders failed to track him down.

After the break both teams went into attacking mode but failed to conjure uop the winner. In the tie breaker, Mandar Rao Dessai and Shallum Pires had their shots saved by the Sporting keeper Dietmar fernandes while Brian Mascarenhas shot wide. Dempo coach Mathew D’Costa was pleased though wth the performance of his boys. The Dempo U-20 team now will look forward to playing in the Sesa Cup that starts on 24th March 2012.
