Dempo SC Juniors defeated United SC Mardol 2-0 in the GFA Third Division Ilhas Zone play-off match played at St Cruz ground on Wednesday.

Dempo juniors scored both the goals in the second session of the play through Joliton and Hazrath.

Both the teams started on equal footings however it was United SC with the first shot on goal when Abhishek intercepted a poor pass from Dempo defender before seeing his shot miss the target by whiskers.

UC Mardol’s Akhil and Shubham supported their striker with constant through-passes but couldn’t beat the Dempo defence led by Valerian Palha. At the other end, Dempo striker Ramnath and Osmiro were denied by Mardol keeper Peter Pereira. The first half ended 0-0.

Crossing over, Dempo SC dominated from the word go and didn’t allow their rivals to settle in the match. Dempo used the flanks to break the rival defence with Ashley and Shankar spraying constant crosses in the rival box and scored the much deserved goal in the 51st minute when Ashley’s perfect cross from the right was brilliantly headed by Joliton  that gave no chance to Peter Pereira.

UC Mardol were totally lost on the pitch as Osmiro, Floyd and Joliton drove the Dempo midfield with short passes and possession play.

Dempo SC Juniors doubled the lead in the 83rd minute through Hazrath off Ashley’s corner kick.

The Golden Eagles had the chance to increase their lead only to see Peter Pereira deny Osmiro’s long range drive.
