Dempo aim to bounce back after shock defeat

Dempo Sports Club V Mohammedan Sporting

After a shock 0-2 loss against Neroca FC in their previous match, Coach Mauricio has no margin for error as he attempts to maintain his team’s chances of a I-League promotion when they face Mohammedan Sporting in the Second Division I-League match in Kolkata on Thursday.

Dempo SC are currently standing third in the league with three points and a win against Kolkata side would be a huge psychological boost in their campaign.

“This is a short league and every game is precious. Mohammedan are a strong team and we have to win this match to keep is on track,” said coach Mauricio Afonso.

“We had enough time for recovery and the players are set to face the Kolkata team,” added Mauricio.

Despite Dempo’s loss against Neroco FC, there’s plenty to be optimistic about, not only because of the chances the team created, but also cause of the newly found dominating and attacking midfield.

“I was’nt happy with the result but we have seen some great things from our midfield, we just failed to take our chances in our previous match which cost us the points. We need to convert our chances to win matches,” said Mauricio recollecting the missed opportunity in their last match.

Coach Mauricio has no injury concerns and though Holicharan Narzary has returned from India team, he wouldn’t play on Thursday.

At the other end, Mohammedan Sporting – who are at the bottom of the table –will look to break their duck against the five-time national champions at Barasat Stadium, as a loss would make it an uphill task for their promotion.

Albeit the Kolkata side Lonestar Kashir in their first match, FIFA docked their three points after failing to pay remuneration to their contracted player.

Further the Kolkata team were defeated by debutant Minerva Academy in the second match and hence will be desperate their open their account against Dempo SC to keep their season’s hope alive.

The last time the two teams met in I-League 13-14 season, Dempo SC edged Mohammed Sporting 1-0 with Tolgay Ozbey scoring the lone goal of the match.
